Gumprint Wunderding
Introduction

My work is inspired by the visual language of the sixties, my childhood years in Germany. Before turning towards art, I was working as a graphic designer for several years.
My paintings, collages and gum prints are influenced by this background. The use of text fragments as a visual element helps me combine the recognizable with the enigmatic. It is an additional layer that gives the depicted image an unexpected twist.

Last year I experimented with a fascinating technique: gum printing. This is a photographic printing process that dates from the 19th-century and is based on the light sensitivity of dichromates. It is  capable of rendering painterly images from photographic negatives.
Gum printing is traditionally a multi-layered printing process, but satisfactory results can be obtained from a single pass.
I used the prints to paint on top in oil color and gouache, sometimes in combination with collage. Have a look at the ‘On paper’ section.
